Mason City Rosalie Vera (Nelson) Olson, 72, of Mason City, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at her home. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 9, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia, with Rev. Jim Stiles of First United Methodist Church and Father Kenneth Gehling, Chaplain Mercy Medical Center, officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Rosalie Olson Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Rosalie Gill was born January 29, 1938, in Kensett, IA, the daughter of Stephen and Vera (Fent) Gill. She graduated from Kensett High School in 1956 and then attended the St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing graduating in 1959. In 1960, she moved to Mason City. Rosalie married Loren Nelson on April 23, 1960 in Manly, IA and later married Paul Olson on September 12, 1998 in Las Vegas, NV. Through the years, Rosalie worked as a RN at Mercy Hospital for 14 years and the Mason City Clinic Urology for 10 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was involved in UMW and was the District Resource Director. She was also a member of the Mercy Nursing Alumni. She was a huge sports fan who always cheered for the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed reading, camping, traveling, and visiting shut-ins. Her main focus was always her family.

Rosalie is survived by her husband: Paul B. Olson of Mason City; her children: Scott Nelson and wife Daisy of Loxahatchee, FL, Elizabeth Kelly and husband Dennis of Clear Lake, IA, and Brian Nelson and wife Susan of Northwood, IA; three step children: Brent Olson and wife Amy of Missouri Valley, IA, Kim Olson and Simo of Chicago, IL, and Julie Kuecker and husband Troy of Prairie City, IA; five grandchildren: Brandon and Zachary Kelly, Ashley, Brock, and Lance Nelson; five step-grandchildren: Chase, Alexis, and Tyler Kuecker, Jessica and Rachael Olson. three sisters: Patricia Fandel and husband John of Golden, CO, Bonita Kral and husband Roger of Glenville, MN, and Sandra Anderson and husband Wayne of Athelstane, WI; She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Gary Gill.
