Rose M. Austin, 83, of Mason City, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware, with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Inurnment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the church service. Memorials may be directed to the Rose Austin memorial fund in care of the family. Rose was born September 2, 1929, in Mason City, the daughter of Lawrence and Jadwiga (Kosinska) Szymeczek. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1947. On August 18, 1950, Rose was united in marriage to Marvin “Gene” Austin at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. Over the years, Rose worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company (1947 – 1955), John Adams/MCHS Cafeteria (1972 – 1977) and Sears – Paint Department (1977 - 1991). She enjoyed traveling (Poland and Hawaii), trips with Barb’s Tours, crocheting, reading, casino day trips and tending to her flower garden. She also enjoyed attending the Sears Ladies Luncheons and Class of ‘47 Breakfast gatherings. Rose was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and church circle. Rose is survived by 2 daughters: Sally Dodson and husband Alan of Bristol, TN, and Nancy Hewlett and husband Kevin of Osceola, IA; 5 grandchildren: Eric Scarbrough and wife Julie of Lake Worth, FL, Kayla Long of Johnson City, TN, Shannon Mayhew and husband Mike of Truro, IA, Vanessa Dreessen and husband Kyle of Elkhorn, NE, and Zachary Hewlett of Omaha, NE; 2 great grandchildren: Colin Scarbrough and Addyson Mayhew; and 1 brother: Frank Szymeczek of Cary, N.C. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003, 1 son: Thomas Austin in 1993; 5 sisters: Mary Zemanek, Annie Borger, Veasha Borger, Katherine Schritt and Frances Gardner; and 2 brothers: Joseph and George Szymeczek.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery

Visitation:
