Rosie was born June 5, 1927, in Mason City, the daughter of Volga German immigrants Henry and Katie (Schulteis) Legler. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1946. On June 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lawrence C. Kofoot at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She and Lawrence made their home in Mason City, and were together for 59 years, until his death in 2007. Rosie worked for Como Photo and later for the Mason City School District until her retirement in 1983. She was an independent woman who loved her family dearly, and was always on the move. She was proud of her Lutheran heritage and was a life member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where her parents were charter members. Rosie was active in many ways at Bethlehem over the years, including as a member of the quilting circle, as a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher and helped in the kitchen for countless church events. Rosie kept busy sewing, volunteering at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa and tending to her flower and vegetable garden. She loved to cook, and her grandchildren eagerly awaited the annual box of Christmas cookies. More than anything, though, Rosie was known for being a good friend and neighbor, putting anyone who needed help ahead of herself – everything from letting her very good friend’s dog out daily for 13 years to checking in on and bringing breakfast to and cooking for people in the neighborhood.
Rosie is survived by her son: Jon Kofoot and wife Wendy of Savage, MN; grandchildren: Jacob (wife Jackie), Samuel, and Hannah Kofoot; 2 sisters-in-law: Bette Legler of Mason City and Marge Funk of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2007; 5 brothers: Henry, Fred, Herman, Jacob and Victor Legler; and sister: Freda Shima.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center for all the loving care they gave Rosie over the last few years and would also like to thank the Hospice of North Iowa for all they did over the last few weeks. All of them not only made things easier for Rosie, but provided a tremendous amount of support for the family. As much as the family would like to mention everyone who helped Rosie the last few years, it’s not possible. The family would, however, especially like to thank her very special friend, Bonnie, for all the love
and attention she gave Rosie.
