Russell A. Hauan

Mason City Russell A. Hauan, age 71, of Mason City, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday (May 8, 2010) at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, IA. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday (May 7, 2010) at Wesley United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church elevator wish list or Hospice of North Iowa.


Russell was born September 26, 1938, in Crystal Township in Hancock County, the son of Ingwald and Ada (Seim) Hauan. He attended school in Crystal Lake. He was united in marriage to Ramona Olson on July 24, 1971 in Montgomery, MN. Russell worked for Winnebago, Forestor Trailer Factory, David Manufacturing, and United Hydraulics. He was a member of Prairie Homestead and Wesley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed farming, motorcycles, welding, building machinery, his cats, and taking frequent trips around the area. He also enjoyed the local tractor rides, state barn tours, and visiting the Mississippi river with his wife to observe the eagles. He was a great father and grandfather and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.


Russell is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ramona Hauan; son, Kevin L. Diekhuis; grandchildren, Pamela M. Diekhuis, Jennifer L. Mallo and special friend Santiago Ferreira, Kelly J. Harbacheck; two great-grandsons, Jamison D. Diekhuis, Dylan S. Mallo; sisters, Arlis L. (Ervin) Kipfer, Phyllis D. Underdahl; 2 nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Diekhuis; brother-in-law, Paul Underdahl; father and mother in law, Oscar and Verola Olson.
