Ruth was born June 15, 1919, in Readlyn, IA, the daughter of Carl and Louise (Becker) Bruns. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Readlyn High School in 1936. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith in September of 1919, at the Zion Lutheran Church. On October 3, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage to Duane C. Hanson. The couple lived in Mason City where they raised a family. She worked for Northwestern Bell as a Telephone Operator for 30 years before her retirement in 1969. Ruth enjoyed visiting with her many dear friends made while at the Telephone office. After retirement, Ruth and “Dusty” spent their time between fishing in Minnesota and staying with lifelong friends in Brownsville, TX. Ruth was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she belonged to Bible Study Group and Circles. She was also a member of Pioneers (Telephone). Throughout her long life as health issues began to limit her ability to live alone, and then finally reside at Good Shepherd Health Care Center, it was her strong faith that sustained her.
