Ruth was born in Mason City on October 21, 1932, to James Glen and Marie Christine (Petersen) Blanchard. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Ruth graduated from Mason City High School in 1950. She and Darold Blazek were married on April 24,1952. He was serving in the Army at that time. She then accompanied him to New Jersey and then Alaska until they returned to Mason City in 1953 where Darold joined and then became owner of the family electrical business. Ruth played an important supporting role in Blazek Electric by completing many clerical tasks, keeping records of accounts and whatever else might need doing. She was very organized and paid attention to detail in whatever she did.
Ruth and Darold were blessed with three children: Cheryl, Brian, and Bradley. Family was very important to Ruth and as a mother she wanted to make birthdays and events special for them. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church. As a member she attended services regularly, programs and classes. She also helped in counting offerings and making quilts with the quilting group. Making lefse and items to be sold at the Fall Bazaar was something she always enjoyed.
Ruth loved to play Bridge and 500. She was a member of several Bridge Clubs. She and Darold enjoyed hosting their many friends in their home to play cards. She enjoyed cross stitching and sewing. At Christmas she baked hundreds of Danish “little cookies” and shared them with family and friends. As a couple they enjoyed traveling to see friends and many tourist destinations.
She enjoyed volunteering in the gift shop at the Music Man Square. “The Music Man” was her favorite movie.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Cheryl (David) Gildner of Belmond and son Brian Blazek of Clear Lake; grandchildren Erin (Justin) Eggleston of Prior Lake, MN and Ryan (Talia) Gildner of Littleton, CO; great grandchildren Evan Gildner, Daniel Gildner and Connor Eggleston.
