Ruth E. Welsh, 89 of Mason City died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at the I.O.O.F. Home. Funeral services for Ruth will be at 2:30 PM, Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue with the Rev. Paul Finger of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood ? St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Tuesday. Ruth Eleanor Welsh, born May 24, 1915, dedicated her life caring for the sick, elderly and dieing working as a Nurse Aide in Nursing Homes and Hospitals. She lovingly cared for her parents in their senior years. Her home for 30 years at 113 8th Street S. W., Mason City, Iowa was always open to any stray animal wandering in her yard, birds, dogs, cats and bunnies. She was especially fond of her dog Porky who lived with her for many years. Ruth was one of 5 children born to August and Johanna O?Green, immigrants from Sweden. She married in 1935 and was blessed with a son, Larry Dean Welsh. Her daughter Joanna Rae Welsh, died at birth. In her youth Ruth worked at Decker?s/Armor Packing Plant and the Motorola Radio Plant. She then took classes to become a Nurses Aide. She cared for patients at the IOOF Home, Park Hospital, and North Iowa Medical Center until she retired. She cared for each patient as if they were family. Mrs. Welsh has been a resident of the IOOF Home for the past 7 years. She was compassionately and superbly cared for by the staff, many of whom worked with her in earlier years. The staff kept her comfortable, groomed, fed and loved to the end, fondly calling her ?Ruthie.? She would have celebrated her 90th birthday May 24th. Ruth is survived by her son, Larry Dean Welsh (Sondra) Centennial, Colorado, 6 grandchildren, Richard Welsh (Joyce) Algona, Iowa, David Welsh (Joann), Clear Lake, Iowa, Dennis Welsh, Belmond, Iowa, Lon Welsh (Teresa) Broomfield, CO and Kristin Welsh, Denver, CO. 9 great-grand children, Travis and Lisa Welsh ( Ames and Clear Lake, Iowa), Ryan Mulso (St. Paul, Minnesota), Eric, Danielle and Joseph Welsh (Nora Springs, Iowa), Melody, Drew and Chase Welsh, (Broomfield, CO) a sister, Hulda Ringis, (Mason City) and cherished her many nieces, nephews, and their children. She always brought gifts of her baking, and trinkets every time she stopped by for a visit. Preceding her in passing are her daughter, parents, a sister and two brothers. She will be laid to rest next to her daughter at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
