Ruth Kathryn Snyder, 95, of Mason City, died Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service. Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church or the Emmanuel House, AFEDJ, 25 Old Kings Highway No., Suite 13, Darien, CT 06820. Emmanuel House is the retirement home of the remaining Episcopalian Sisters who founded the Evangelical Home and School for Children in Ramallah. Ruth was born February 28, 1915, in Mason City, the daughter of Carl and Bess L. (Owen) Grupp. She graduated from Mason City High School and Mason City Jr. College. On August 18, 1935, she married Gerald Snyder in Mason City. Ruth worked in the family business, Grupps Food Center, and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Golden Age, and a Piano Club. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at the Red Cross for many years. She also enjoyed music. Ruth played the piano and organ at Wesley United Methodist Church and also played for the devotions at Homestead Assisted Living. She is survived by two daughters: Joan R. Ortlieb and husband Richard of Grass Valley, CA, and Sally L. Tatum and husband Gerald of Mason City; one brother: Carl Bud Grupp Jr. and wife Carlynn of Mason City; one sister: Sister Mary J. Grupp of Swansea, Wales; seven grandchildren: Todd Tatum and wife Jackie of Des Moines, IA, Julie Servantez and husband Mike of Rockwell, IA, Scott Tatum and wife Jennifer of Clear Lake, IA, Jonathan Wooldridge of Grass Valley, CA, Paul Wooldridge and wife Janice of Dickinson, TX, Cathy Nesselroad and husband Chris of Dana Point, CA, and Lisa Starnes and husband Byron of Castle Rock, CO; eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Gerald Snyder in 1998, brothers: Jack, Roger, Donald, Richard and Rev. Robert Grupp.
