Samnang Yann Lem was born in a refugee camp in Thailand, on February 25, 1985, to parents Yann Lem and Chanthy Im. The family was sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason City, and at seven months old Lucky moved to Mason City. He grew up in Mason City attending Harding Elementary, playing football at John Adams and attending Mason City High School.
Lucky loved the outdoors. You could always find him fishing the Winnebago River, ice fishing on Big Blue during the winter, hunting pheasants during the fall or hunting for morel mushrooms in the woods. If it involved the outdoors that’s where you could find him. When he wasn’t in the outdoors Lucky enjoyed playing video games and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Lucky is survived by his parents: Yann Lem and Chanthy (Dennis) Gordon; siblings Jon (Sheila) Lem and Thoeun (Travis) Barnes.
