Scott Deloy Ward, 73, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
Scott was born May 9, 1951, in Mason City, to Sherman and Ruth Ward. As a kid he loved to ride bikes and fish with the boys in the neighborhood. As he got older, cars caught his eye. Under the tutelage of his father Sherman and his uncle Deany began his love affair of creative designs, architecture, and the mechanics of how things work. Gaining confidence from his exposure to these ideas at a young age led him to buying 10 acres of land and embarking on one of the biggest challenges of his life, building not only a house, but a place to call “home”. This accomplishment allowed him to flourish, becoming a man of many trades. He explored woodworking, metal works, mechanics, logging, blade smithing, and even built his own sawmill at one time. As his skills and knowledge grew, he needed someone or something to share them with, and he formed his most prized possession, “The Barn”. The Barn was where he was truly himself. He was either watching shows like Gunsmoke or Bonanza while he worked, or he would be blaring some oldies over the radio. You may even catch him singing, “Lil’ Red Riding Hood” on an especially good day. The barn was not only where he got a lot of work done, but it was a place to share stories with friends, do some swimming, wrestle a couple of WWE matches, and even throw a couple of Christmas and 4th of July parties. The man was always full of love and life. He had a shooting range, built go carts, swings and ziplines off his house. He built a rock quarry in ground pool. He loved his apple trees and his gardens. He spent many hours working on his too many to list creations and inventions. Anything you could dream up, he had. This life, this “home” he built was truly his playground, and no matter if you were friend or family, we were all lucky to be one of the “cool kids”.
Scott is survived by his children Josh (Renee) Ward, Jesse (Christine) Ward, Brandy (Joe) Harmon, and Chris Ward. Sister Sherrine (Morley) Lee, brother Sharm (Tracy) Ward, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sherman and Ruth Ward.
