MASON CITY Sedonna E. McFarland, age 80, of Mason City, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Dan Gerrietts of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 7:00 PM on Friday, March 5, 2010, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be held in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Sedonna E. McFarland Memorial Fund, 509 S. Pierce Ave., Mason City, IA, in care of the family. \r\n

Sedonna was born August 20, 1929, in rural Minnesota Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Fennert) Fischer. She attended country schools in Minnesota. She married Robert McFarland on May 18, 1957, in Mankato, Minnesota. Sedonna enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and her many trips to Las Vegas. She was a member of the Womens V.F.W. Auxiliary and enjoyed visiting with her friends there. She and her husband also loved wintering in Texas for the last 15 years. She loved the time she spent with her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew her.\r\n

Sedonna is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert McFarland of Mason City; children, Marlin (Judy) Severson of Menomonie, WI, Harlan (Nancy) Severson of Lake View, MN, Debra Grouette of Mason City, Carlin (Wendy) McFarland of Mason City, Darla McFarland of Mason City, Deanna McFarland of Fond Du Lac, WI; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, one great granddaughter due in April; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Jim McFarland of Easton, MN; sister-in-laws, Barbara Fischer of Waldorf, MN, Margret Reiman of Albert Lea, MN, Marion Stencel of Minnesota, Alice Beise of Virginia, MN, Betty Alschlager of Mapleton, MN; best friends, Merlyn and Geneva Ulrich of Mason City, Johnny and Linda Quinones of Mason City.\r\n

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lyle and Carl Fischer, Jr.; sister-in-law, Lenora Fischer; in-laws, Elmer and Lina McFarland; brother-in-laws, Richard McFarland, Luverne Alschlager, Russel Beise.
