Sharon Jane Meyer, 68, of Mason City, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday (June 28, 2007) at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148-4th St. S.E. with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour before the service Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Sharon J. Meyer memorial fund, Hospice of North Iowa or the St. James Lutheran Church. Sharon J. Meyer was born December 27, 1938 in Rockwell, IA the daughter of Vern and Eva (Awe) Hathaway. She attended Rockwell Schools and graduated in 1957. She married David P. Meyer on May 10, 1959 at St. Peter?s Lutheran Church in Rockwell, from this union three children were born. She worked at McKellins 50 cent store, the County Market in the Pharmacy, Globe Gazette as a paper stuffer, cleaned houses and was a homemaker and raised her family. Sharon and her family enjoyed camping around the Midwest and Decorah, IA. She enjoyed trout fishing and golfing. She also enjoyed the time she spent in Texas and Florida and their second home in Arizona during her retirement. Sharon?s family was important to her, especially her grandchildren who she loved to spoil. Sharon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Sharon is survived by her husband of 48 years, David Meyer, Mason City; daughters, Kim Platts and fiancé Jim Whitney of Hoffman Estates, IL, Susan Meyer of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Kari Hammes and husband Brad of Florence, SC, Michael Piper and fiancée Jolene Paulson of Emmons, MN, and Melissa Piper of Clear Lake; sisters, Delores Vierkant of Waterloo, Dorothy Taylor and husband Don of Pueblo, CO; brothers, Charles Hathaway and wife Marliese of Rockwell, Clifford Dale Hathaway and wife Linda of Rockwell, and Mike Hathaway of CO; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Meyer and wife Linda of Rockwell, Donald Meyer and wife Sandi of Omaha, NE; aunt and uncles, Clara Wilson and husband Jim of Mason City, Lola Truax and husband Russell of Osage; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Sharon is preceded in death by her son, Philip Meyer in 2006; her parents; brother, James and in-laws, Paul and Marie Meyer.
