She married Walter Mensing and they were blessed with four children. Although the two divorced over twenty years ago, they remained close friends and shared in many family gatherings and joyous events over the years.
Shelby was employed at Principal Financial Group in Mason City for nearly seventeen years. Although her work became more physically difficult for her toward the end of her life, she greatly enjoyed her job and especially the company of her co-workers.
Shelby had many friends and loved spending time with her family. She was very proud of her children and was always willing to show-off pictures and stories of her four grandchildren. Shelby enjoyed playing pool, scrapbooking, and sewing. She would often take ideas from her favorite HGTV shows and incorporate them into her own home decorating projects. Shelby was a warm, friendly person who greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word. Her bravery and grace through her illness was inspiring to everyone who knew her. She was a breast cancer survivor for over three and a half years.
