Mason City, Iowa Shirley E. Reynolds, age 90, of Mason City, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the IOOF Home in Mason City. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel at St. Johns Episcopal Church with Rev. Wendy Abrahamson officiating. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the St. Johns Episcopal Church Altar Guild or Hospice of North Iowa.
Shirley was born on March 11, 1919, to Charles and Josephine (Thompson) Dobson. She graduated from Mason City High School before attending NIACC and eventually going on to earn a nursing degree from Thorek Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Shirley was united in marriage to Claude Reynolds on May 11, 1947, in Mason City. She was a member of D.A.R. (Daughters of American Revolution) and St. Johns Episcopal Church. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry, genealogy, and was a proud registered nurse. She was the first nurse in her area to administer a penicillin shot.
Shirley is survived by her step-daughter, Lavonne Reynolds; daughter-in-law, Sharon Reynolds; grandchildren, Randy (Laurie) Reynolds, Sherry (Mark) Sandvik, Tim (Lisa) Reynolds, and Jeff Reynolds; great grandchildren, Justin and Colette Reynolds, Keila (Andy) Buffington, Jenny (Harry) Niska, Lee Reynolds, and Coton Reynolds; great-great grandchildren, Madeline and Isabel Buffington; Josh and Cody Reynolds; and Nathanael Niska; and many nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude; step-son, Lee Reynolds.
