Shirley K. Stoyles, 76, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 120 1st St. NE, with The Rev. Kris Leaman and The Rev. Barbara McCaulley officiating. Inurnment will take place in St. John’s Episcopal Church Columbarium at a later date. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday, January 16, 2017, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Shirley Stoyles memorial fund in care of the family.
Shirley was born February 25, 1940, in Mason City, the daughter of Fred and Flo (Miller) Moore. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1958, and continued her education at Mason City Jr. College. On September 4, 1960, Shirley married William F. Stoyles in Mason City. Shirley was a domestic engineer who loved to volunteer. Over the years she, was involved with the American Cancer Society, Daffodil Days (past chairwoman), Cerro Gordo County Relay for Life, United Way of North Central Iowa, Girl Scout Council of North Iowa, board of directors of Francis Lauer Youth Services, YWCA Teenage Program Director, Meals on Wheels and helped establish the volunteer program at Mercy Cancer Center. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing the piano, birding, calling in the cardinals and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where she was Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir. She was also a member of PEO, Bridge Club and 12 Tight Ends (football club).
Shirley is survived by her husband of 56 years: Bill Stoyles of Mason City; 3 daughters: Holly Schilmoeller and husband Lance of Omaha, NE, Noelle Stoyles and wife Heather Jennings of St. Paul, MN, and Nicole Stoyles of Olathe, KS; 4 grandchildren: Hannah Schilmoeller, Sam Schilmoeller, Maya Gallagher and Ally Schilmoeller; special nephew: Mick Moore and wife Melinda of Phoenix, AZ; and 2 sisters-in-law: Barbara Moore of Springfield, MO and Ann Moore of Phoenix. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 4 brothers: Dwane Miller, Bob Moore, Richard Moore and Marvin Moore.
