Shirley A. Sharp

Shirley Ann Sharp, 91, of Mason City, IA, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 11 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, with Pastor Nadine Ilunga officiating.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 10 AM Wednesday at the church.

Shirley Ann (Friend) Sharp was born on October 18, 1932, in Mason City, Iowa to parents Everett Friend, Sr. and Rea (Joslin) Friend. She attended Mason City Community Schools and graduated from Mason City High School in 1950.

On June 9, 1950, Shirley was united in marriage to Bernard Sharp. The couple was blessed with three children: Kathleen, Debra, and Michael. They made their home in Mason City and rural Rockwell before she moved back to Mason City.

Shirley worked with Bernie at Lee’s Lanes, and later she became a salesclerk for S. S. Kresge, Anthony’s and Younkers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three children, Kathleen Sharp, of Mason City, Debra Retleff of Mason City, and Michael (Linda) Sharp of Marion, IA; one grandchild, Mallory Christopher; and two great-grandchildren, August and Ella Christopher; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bernard in 2002; and all of her siblings.
