Sigurd Hasfjord

Mason City: Sigurd Hasfjord, 94, died at the Heritage Care Center on Thursday, September 6, 2007. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, September 10, 2007, at Grace Lutheran Church 302 4th St. Hanlontown, Iowa., with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, (September 9, 2007) from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Sigurd Hasfjord memorial fund. Sigurd Hasfjord was born June 3, 1913 in Petersburg, North Dakota, the son of Christian and Christina (Hatland) Hasfjord. He was confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Lake Park, MN as a teenager, while living at the Lake Park Orphans Home. He attended high school in Wahkon, MN graduating in 1931. In his younger years he worked many jobs traveling the Midwest. Sigurd farmed in the Manly area for all of his married life. Sigurd enjoyed all types of dancing, traveling, farming and spending time with his family who were all important to him. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles in Albert Lea, MN and also a long time member of the Hanlontown Grace Lutheran Church. He was also active at the Mason City Senior Center and the Heritage Park of North Iowa in Forest City. Sigurd is survived by his very dear friend, Thelma Klemensen of Mason City, children, Soren Hasfjord and wife Sue of Farmers Branch, TX, Mary Hufford and husband Bob of Cynthiana, KY, Dave Hasfjord and wife Barb of Mason City, and Merle Hasfjord and wife Rosita of Manly; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
