MASON CITY: Stephen F. Steve Funk, 59, of Mason City, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Stephen Funk memorial fund.
Stephen was born on April 26, 1950 in Mason City, IA, the son of Frederick and Marion (Taylor) Funk. He graduated from Mason City High School. Steve served in U.S. Marine Corp from April 1, 1968 to April 21, 1972 in Vietnam. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and playing Fooshball.
Stephen is survived by his children: Mike Funk and wife Nichole deployed to Iraq, Dannielle Funk and boyfriend Matt of Mason City; his mother: Marion Funk of Mason City; 3 grandchildren: Nicole, Bethany, and Austin; 2 step daughters: Tiffany Mussman of Mason City, Jennifer Hosch of Cedar Rapids; 3 sisters: Cathy Arndt and husband Cyrus of Mason City, Vicki Bramsen and husband Dennis Butch of Mason City, Molly Beier of Mason City; 1 brother: Jayme Funk and wife Keri of Mason City; 2 aunts: Mary Allen and husband Jesse of Mason City, Regina Ackerman of Cedar Rapids; 1 uncle: Frank Funk and wife Marjorie of Mason City; special friends: Tammy Nelson of Mason City, John and Doreen McLaughlin Sr. of Burchinal and their children: Sheri Gonzales of Clear Lake and John McLaughlin Jr. of Mason City. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
