Steven Lee Colvin, 49, of Hawkeye, Iowa died Tuesday (March 16, 2004) at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday at the First Christian Church, 318 N. Adams, with Rev. Bill Kanne officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before services. Memorials may be given to the Steven L. Colvin Memorial Fund. Steve was born October 29, 1954 in Ida Grove, Iowa the son of Charles and Miriam (Kimball) Colvin. He graduated from North Fayette County Community High School, West Union in 1972. He then graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Animal Ecology in 1975 and an MS in Agricultural Engineering in 1977. He earned the Rice Estate Scholarship during his junior and senior years at Iowa State. He worked as a researcher for the Iowa Conservation Commission in 1975. Steve worked in research and development for the Iowa State University Coal Project from 1976-77 and as a software engineer for McDonnell-Douglas Electronics Company from 1978-81. From 1981-91 Steve was a software specialist for Digital Equipment Corporation. Steve was a staff engineer for Deere and Company from 1991 until his retirement in 2002. Steve always gave 100% to every job he did. Steve farmed land near Hawkeye from 1973-88. He married Barbara Lea Thomas October 4, 1986 at the First Christian Church in Mason City. They lived in New Hampton from 1986-98 then moved to Hawkeye. Steve loved spending time with family. He also enjoyed traveling, antique cars, reading, doing puzzles, playing games, petting the family cats and helping Barbara with her button collection. He was a member of First Christian Church where he was a deacon. Steve is survived by his wife, Barbara Colvin of Hawkeye; mother, Miriam Colvin of Madrid; brother, Thomas Colvin and wife Sonja of Cambridge; sister, Patricia Stumme and husband Terry of Albert Lea, MN; mother-in-law, Iona Thomas of Mason City; 3 brothers-in-law, Leon Thomas and wife Mary of Mason City, Mark Thomas and wife Tralee of Mason City, Robert Thomas of Mason City; nephews and nieces, Dylan, Derek, Alyssa, Eric, Jason, Margaret, Paige, Christopher, Kristel, Ethan and Aidan. Steve was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; father, Charles and his father-in-law, Ralph Thomas
