Sylvia L. Pahl, 86, of Mason City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 14, 2013 at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148-4th St. S.E. with Pastor Paul Nelson and Pastor Jeni Bohls officiating. Inurnment will be in the City of St. Ansgar Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Sylvia L. Pahl memorial fund in care of the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com. Sylvia Lucille Pahl was born in Rockford, IA, on May 8, 1926, the daughter of Guy and Ida Biggs. She was baptized at Holy Family Catholic Church in Rockford in 1926, and confirmed on December 23, 1956, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, IA. Sylvia married Melvin R. Pahl of St. Ansgar, on June 25, 1949. Sylvia was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Mason City. She was a member and volunteer at the VFW Aux. 733 and a volunteer at the Community Kitchen and St. James Lutheran Church. She worked at the Mason City School Service (Schools) for 20 years and Mode-O-Day for 12 years. Sylvia loved reading books, watching Iowa Basketball games, playing cards, and eating out with her friends. She also enjoyed having coffee with former ladies of the (old) Lincoln School PTA and getting together with the retired food kitchen (school) personnel every month. She had a zest for life and enjoyed telling jokes. Sylvia is survived by her two daughters: Julie Kitchen of Grand Prairie, TX, and Janet (Dean) Tegtmeyer of Clear Lake, IA; one sister: Evelyn (Don) Hogan of Dougherty, IA; two brothers: Glenn Biggs of Rockford, IA, and Jimmy Biggs of Charles City, IA; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Guy and Ida Biggs; husband: Melvin R. Pahl; three sisters: Irene Biggs, Elma Dow, and Gladys Waters; three brothers: Earl Biggs, Henry Biggs, and Robert Biggs; three sisters-in-law: Donna Biggs, Bonnie Biggs, and Virginia Cooper; and one brother-in-law: Charles Cooper.
