Theodore G. Ted Hasapopoulos, of Mason City, went to be with the Lord peacefully on April 23, 2011 after 91 years of a full and vigorous life. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd Street SW with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. A Trisagion service will be take place at 6:30 PM. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.
Ted, with his brothers George, Pete and Sam were noted restaurant owners serving customers in Mason City and Clear Lake for over 40 years. As an accomplished chef, he served thousands of customers the best of Greek and American food.
Ted was born in Mason City on April 20, 1920 to immigrant Greek parents. His childhood was spent farming and he entered the Army to serve during WWII as a training sergeant. Returning to Mason City, he and his brothers opened the Stag, the Bolero, Hasses Drive In, the Town House and the Holiday Lounge in Clear Lake. In the mid-70s, they consolidated their operations building a hotel with the Holiday and opened the Holiday Motor Lodge. They offered hospitality, fine dining and entertainment to North Iowans until their retirements.
Ted is survived by his wife of 57 years, Audrey (Austin); children, John (Tris) Hasapopoulos, Tedi Anne Hasapopoulos, Susan (Mike) Balk, Jayne (Siva) Pemmaraju, and Michael (Ezelda) Hasapopoulos; his siblings George, Sam, and Bess; 16 grandchilden; 5 step grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gus, and Fotini; sons, Timothy, Dennis and Gregory, and siblings Theodora and Pete.
