Theodore F. Kehm

Theodore F. Kehm of Mason City died Saturday, April l3, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Health Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease and is now with his Savior. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia with Rev. Sean McRoberts officiating. Interment will take place in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be given in Ted's name to the First United Methodist Church, KCMR or Hospice of North lowa. Theodore (Ted) F. Kehm was born on Jan. 19, 1938 to Warren Dale and Genevieve (Bloxham) Kehm in Mason City. He attended school in Mason City and Waldorf College in Forest City. He completed his education by attending MCJC/NIACC where he earned his journeyman's electrician's license. He married his wife Gaye Hanson on December 12, 1955 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. To this union four sons were born, Richard, Dwight, John and Jeffrey. Ted was an electrician for over 55 years, owning his own electrical contracting business for 35 years, Kehm Electric. He and his wife were also in the retail business for 20 years in Hampton, having owned and operated the Ben Franklin-Coast to Coast and Gaye's Hallmark-Clothing Quarters. In both Mason City and Hampton, he was involved with youth baseball. In Mason City he was involved with the Knights of Columbus baseball program. He was a Little League coach for many years and then was the Pony League Supervisor. In Hampton he was awarded the Distinguished Service award in 1976 for his contributions to the lighting of the youth baseball diamond. In years past Ted enjoyed playing golf and going on his annual fishing trip with friends to Canada. He was an avid Hawkeye football fan. He and his wife enjoyed their frequent trips to the prairies and mountains of Montana to visit family. They also spent several winters in Florida. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City where he served on the Board of Trustees. Ted is survived by his wife, Gaye, his sons Richard (Lydia) of Scottsdale ,Arizona, Dwight (Barb) of Mason City, John (Cindy) of Forest City, and Jeffrey (Jan) of Mason City. Ten grandchildren, Joshua, Kelly and Derek of Scottsdale, Arizona, Joseph (Michele) of Forest City, lowa, Christopher (Jayleen), Hillary (Tony), and Alexander of Mason City, Gunner (Brittlyn), Spencer and Sawyer of Mason City, eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Jack (Judy) of Scottsdale, Arizona and a special nephew, Michael (Laura) Davis and their children of Waverly, his brothers-in-law, Clifford (Charlotte) Hanson of Chester, Montana, Ronald (Sharlene) Hanson of Havre, Montana, and sister-in-law Julie (David) Larson of Anoka, Minnesota and many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the USA. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, his father Dale in 1947, his mother in 1986, his sister Sally Davis in 2001 and a niece Michele in 1972. Also his parents-in-law Clifford and Mildred Hanson of Chester, Montana. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at the Good Shepherd for the care that was given to Ted.
