Theophil L. “Ted” Van Lent, 80 of Mason City, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM Friday, January 11, 2013 at Epiphany Parish at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 302 5th Street SE with Rev. Rodney Allers, celebrant. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. A scriptural wake service will be held at 6:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc. Ted was born December 20, 1932 in Rockwell, Iowa the son of Charles Louis and Elsie (Engels) Van Lent. He graduated from Dougherty High School and from Hamilton Business College in 1959. Ted served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Rozena M. Theis May 28, 1960 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City. Ted worked for Marshall and Swift as their office manager. He retired in 1995 after 38 years. Ted was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the VFW. Some of his interests included hunting, fishing, golfing, volleyball, bowling, and cards. Ted is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rozena M. Van Lent of Mason City; children, Lisa (David) Ebel of Mason City, Julie (Don) Caspers of Swaledale, Vicki (Myron) Schluter of Louisburg, Kansas, Mark (Annette) Van Lent of Nora Springs, Dina (Rich) Schuckman of Hudson, Illinois; grandchildren, Derek, Dalton, Todd, Heather, Rachel, Matthew, Joshua, Anna, Jared, and Tasha; siblings, Walter (Midge) Van Lent of Sycamore, Illinois, Emily Benson of Rockwell, Joseph (Lora) Van Lent of Des Moines, Erma (Ed) Zilly of Mason City, and Leonard (Pat) Van Lent of Ankeny; aunt, Grace Lonergan of Mason City; brother-in-law, Carroll (Dyane) Theis of Mason City; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Florence, and 2 sisters, Mary Murphy and Helen Fitzgerald.
