Veda M Simmons

Veda Simmons, 87, of Mason City, IA, died Friday, March 17, 2017 at Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia, with Rev. Kathleen R. Moore and Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held Monday March 27, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Good Shepherd Health Center, 302 2nd Street NE, Mason City, IA 50401.

Veda was born May 11, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Linnie (Carpenter) Weeter in Thayer-Union County, IA. On September 18, 1946, Veda was united in marriage to Paul Simmons in Atchison, KS. Veda was a long time member of the United Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church in Mason City. Veda was known for being a caring person who loved spending time with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her joy in preparing family meals, holiday celebrations and caring greatly for her family.

Veda is survived by her sons: Rodney (Susan) Simmons of Mason City and Steve (Sara) Simmons of Tucson, AZ; granddaughters; Katie Simmons of Windsor Heights, IA and Anne Simmons of San Francisco, CA.

Veda was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Linnie Weeter; husband: Paul Simmons; and 8 siblings.
