Vergie M. Havig, 87, of Mason City, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Heritage Care & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 8, 2010 at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street S.E., with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM 4:00 PM on Sunday (November 7, 2010) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Vergie Havig Memorial Fund in care of the family. Vergie was born April 23, 1923, in Osterdock, IA, on a farm in Clayton County. She was the daughter of Edward and Adelia (Gerloff) Haught. She attended school in Strawberry Point. On December 22, 1950, Vergie married Forrest A. Havig in Waterloo, IA. Vergie was a homemaker and also worked part time at the Globe Gazette. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Vergie enjoyed car rides and thrift stores. She was very involved in the community and had a passion for politics. Vergie was a very giving person who donated to many charities and political campaigns. Vergie is survived by her children: Ron Havig of Menifee, CA, Roger Havig of Mason City, Randy Havig of Mason City, and Rochelle Havig of Mason City; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters: Imogene Pirillo of Oelwein, IA and Ivanelle Bushaw of Strawberry Point, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Forrest - who died on May 17, 1999; and her siblings: Ezala (Infant), Arlo, Lyle, Lloyd, Marie, and Louise.

Memorials may be directed to the Vergie Havig Memorial Fund in care of the family

Cemetery:
Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery
