Verla J. Keeling

Verla Jean Aamondt Keeling, age 91, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Creek Side Living in Grundy Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Inurnment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family of Verla Keeling. 

Verla Keeling was born on January 15, 1933, in Mason City, to her parents Joseph and Sarah (Jones) Aamondt. She was confirmed and baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. Alvin Rogness. She graduated from Mason City High School. On May 29, 1953, she was united in marriage to Richard Keeling in Biloxi, Mississippi. She worked 26 years as a composer for the Cedar Rapids School System. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids Retired Teachers, Cedar Valley Polka Club for 30 years. 

Survivors include her son, Joey Keeling of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Kersten Keeling; and many nieces and nephews. 

Verla was preceded in death by her son, Steven; daughter, Lisa; and her parents, Joe and Sarah Aamondt.
