He proudly served his country as a Staff Sgt. in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. Following his military service he started his truck driving career lasting over 40-years. In Vern’s second career, he and his wife, Elaine, managed multiple senior community parks in Northern Arizona. He was the world’s best handyman. On December 1, 1951 Vern and Elaine (Whitney) united in marriage and with this union 12 children were born. Our Dad was the center of everything; a hero, a husband, a soldier, a father and grandfather. He was the moral compass to everything right. He will be greatly missed. Vern loved a good laugh and knew how to have fun. He enjoyed NASCAR, baseball, fishing and savored Mom’s cooking, especially the homemade bread. In their retirement years they enjoyed traveling in the motorhome visiting family and friends. Vern leaves behind his devoted wife Elaine of 61-years, 9 children; Mark (Deborah), Vanessa (Bob) Roth, Rebecca (Sloan) Thompson, Grant “Bo”, Verna (Bob) Ostrander, Russell, Scott (Karen), Colleen (Keith) Mustain, Carolyn (Samuel) Medina. 35 Grandchildren; Michael, Michelle, Isaac, Nicole, Phil Bo, Thomas, Timothy, Terance, Travis, Angel, Tracy, Jackie, Courtney, Andrew, Allison, Zachary, Robert Jr, William, Charles, Lucas, Scott, Eric, Susan, Jessica, Jennifer, Lindsay, Savannah, Scotty, Ryannon, Matthew, Emily, David, Mercedes, Mallory, & Samuel. 44 Great Grandchildren; Gabriel, Marcella, Sierra, Whitney, Kayla, Tessa, Abigail, Sarah Grace, Mariah, Isabella, Emma, Juliette, Charles, Ben, Katelynn, Alyssa, Laycee, Zach, Madison, Megan, Caiden, Camdyn, Mason, Colin, Kate, Nancy Jean, Charles, Addison, Anniston, Sarah, Ben, Jeremy, Ethan, Holland, Mila, Afton, Maili, Elsa, Martez, Airika, Dalyn, Ariyana, Aaron and Baby Bethay due in July.
