Virginia C. Simons

April 29, 1921 — April 19, 2009

MASON CITY: Virginia Constance Simons, 87, of Mason City, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at her home. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City with Rev. Steve Hansen, Wesley & Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Telephone Reassurance Fund, 302 2nd St. N.E., Mason City, IA 50401.



Virginia was born April 29, 1921, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Miller) Glander. Mr. Glander was a well known Milwaukee R.R. Bridge and Building supervisor in Minnesota, Iowa, and the Dakotas. Virginia lived the first 15 years of her life in Hutchinson and Glencoe, Minnesota. She was very active in school affairs. Virginia came to Mason City in the summer of 1936 and graduated from Mason City High School in 1939 before graduating Mason City Junior College in 1941. While in college, she took the teachers training course. Virginia was a former Northwestern Bell telephone operator. She worked for the Witwer Wholesale Company for 15 years, was an office manager for 10 years, and also worked in the office of Eatons Department Store. She was married to Donald Simons in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on November 2, 1952. She loved flowers, birds, small animals, and especially Northern Minnesota.



She was preceded in death by husband, parents, uncles and aunts.
