She graduated from Charles City High School in 1942. Following graduation, Virginia worked for the War Dept. in Washington DC from 1942 – 1945, during WWII. Virginia was united in marriage to Clifton E. “Butch” Nickerson on February 1, 1946, in Charles City and in 1949, she had her one and only daughter Janese. She also spent countless hours volunteering at her granddaughter’s day care being everyone’s favorite grandma. Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Back in the day, she was an accomplished roller skater in Washington, DC and she delighted in telling war time tales. There was always a Sunday meal at Grandma’s house, and she enjoyed sewing, tending to her yard & flower garden, taking care of her cat “Chancy”, and traveling to Las Vegas. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Virginia was a hard worker with a great sense of humor and always the life of the party. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
