Vivian Lenore Bugbee, 92, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, and continue one hour prior to the church service. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Vivian Bugbee memorial fund in care of the family.
Vivian Lenore Johnson was born October 18, 1923 in Sharon, ND, the daughter of Iver K. and Lizza M. (Pederson) Johnson. She graduated from Sharon High School in 1940. Vivian married Leslie L. Bugbee on April 20, 1941 in Mayville, ND. Vivian and Leslie and son lived in Sharon until 1948 when they moved to Joice, IA where they farmed. In 1956 the family moved to Hawthorne, CA. Vivian worked for Douglas Aircraft. In 1964 the family returned to Lake Mills, IA where Vivian worked as an Assembler for Fleet Guard for 22 years, until her retirement in 1988. In 1991, Vivian and Leslie moved to Mason City. Vivian enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the North Iowa Quilt Guild. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts and baking. Vivian was blessed with the talent to play piano and organ by ear and for many years played the piano, organ or keyboard for various special events and nursing homes.
Vivian is survived by her children: Verdean Bugbee and wife Dorthe of Beaverton, Oregon and Beverly McMurray and husband Charles of Mason City; 4 grandchildren: Caroline Kuhn and husband Michael of Kelso, WA, Carin Gordon and husband Daniel of Walla Walla, WA, Vanessa Gregory and husband Eric of Seattle, WA, and Michelle Shekleton and husband Kevin of Kansas City, MO; 9 great grandchildren: Amelia, Ryker, Luke, Vivian, Soren, Maren, Hanna, Philip and Jack; and 1 brother-in-law: Melvin Bugbee and wife Amy of Grand Forks, ND. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 sisters: Alma Erickson, Nina Mathieu, Irene Ostmo, Esther Lerfald and Dorothy Topel; and 2 brothers: Imer K. Johnson and Julian Johnson.
