Zip passed away peacefully with his beloved family by his side. Born and raised in Mason City, Iowa, Zip was an outstanding high school athlete. He worked for Interstate Power/Alliant Energy for 41.5 years as a power lineman with a long history of lineman in the family including his father-in-law, son, three grandsons and one grandson- in-law. Line work was often a topic of conversation at family get-togethers.
Zip married Carol (Christensen) Hansen. He loved celebrating holidays especially Christmas where he and Carol went above and beyond with their beautiful decorating delighting all who stopped by to visit. Zip and Carol spent many wonderful summers at their Lake Vermilion cabin on Blueberry Island as did their family who often joined them. He was the biggest Iowa Hawkeye fan ever! Seldom missed watching “his” Hawkeyes. Go Hawks!
Zip is preceded in death by his parents, Volney A and Mabelle (Eddy) Hansen, his sister, Beverley, his father and mother-in law, Soren and Bonna Christensen, two grandchildren and one great grandson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carol, his children Cathy and Rick Storey, Russ and Tammy Hansen, Christine and Matt Francis and Mindy and Jim Nelson. His grandchildren, Anne Storey, Jane (Christian) Kerr, Ryan (Elizabeth) Hansen, Tyler (Jenna) Hansen, Christopher (Katie) Francis, Nicholas (Jessica) Francis, Robert Francis, Greg (Railyn) Nelson, Sarah (Joe) Snyder and Mike Nelson along with 14 great-grandchildren, his cats, Sven and Anna, and additional family and friends.
Zip was an exceptionally kind, gentle, thoughtful man whose goal was to live to be 100! He was loved and adored by his family and will be missed beyond words. Our hearts are truly broken.
