MASON CTIY: Walter M. Berry, 97, of Mason City, died Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with The Rev. Michael Last, Interim Rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Walter Berry Memorial Fund. Walter was born February 15, 1917 in Mason City the son of Leo and Easter (Veech) Berry. He graduated from Duluth High School. He married Betty J. Taylor June 14, 1947 in Mason City. Walter was a 71 year member of the Mason City Fire Department. He worked as a firefighter for 33 years, retiring in 1973. Through the years, Walter also worked as a truck driver for Coca-Cola, 27 years and at House of Sports/North Iowa Tire, 20 years. He was a member of the Firefighters Union. Walter is survived by his wife, Betty of Mason City; son, Michael (Vivian) of Farmington, Minnesota; daughter, Patricia (Richard) Kozelka of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; son, Thomas (Susan) of Havana, Arkansas; daughter, Susan Stone of Mason City; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Allison Stone King in 2003.
