Walter Muhlstein Jr., 87, of Mason City, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Kent Mechler, Chaplain, Good Shepherd Health Center officiating. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. The family will greet friends one hour before the service on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Walter was born April 23, 1929 in Mason City the son of Walter and Lydia (Beisel) Muhlstein. He attended school in Mason City. Walter married Miriam H. Johnson June 16, 1947 in Austin, Minnesota. Walter was a long time employee of Jacob E. Decker and Sons and later the Armour Company. He retired in 1978. He enjoyed trips to Las Vegas as well as visiting area casinos. Walter also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd for the care Walter received while he was a resident.
Walter is survived by his 2 daughters, Cathy (Jim) Manuel of Mason City and Geri (Dave) Dunn of Mason City; 4 grandchildren, Steve (Alisha) Manuel of Altoona, Tim Manuel of Roswell, Georgia, Megan (Jason) Blunt of Mason City and David (Jill) Dunn of Rochester, Minnesota; 9 great grandchildren, Kelsey, Erika and Lilly Manuel, Carson and Kailee Blunt, Claire and Grace Dunn and Patience and Sierra Thompson; 2 sisters, Dixie (Charles) Harris of Mason City and Donna Meyer of Mason City; 1 brother, Richard (Trudy) Muhlstein of Mason City; many nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Miriam; 1 sister, Darlene and 1 brother, Donald.
