MASON CITY ? Walter Arthur ?Skip? Rose, 57 of Mason City died Saturday, December 18, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:30 ? 8:30 PM on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. A memorial fund has been established in Skip?s name. Skip was born March 22, 1947 the son of Robert and Genevieve (Hagen) Rose in Mason City. He attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School, Class of 1965. Skip was united in marriage to Judy Joanne Rodberg at Trinity Lutheran Church on December 24, 1965. During the 1960?s he worked for Nutting Auto Parts and the Sugar Beet Plant in Mason City. Skip was employed for thirty years by Crouse Cartage Company (CCC) as a truck driver. He retired from CCC in 2000. Prior to his employment at CCC, Skip worked for other trucking companies in the Mason City area. Skip enjoyed auto racing, he raced a hobby stock car at the I-35 Speedway in Mason City during the 1970?s. He owned and managed a race car for his son, Rob Rose from 1988 to 2004. They raced hobby stocks, stock cars and dirt track modifieds at race tracks all over Iowa. Skip also enjoyed watching his wife Judy, and son-in-law Joe Schmit race in and around Northern Iowa. Skip loved and adored his grandchildren and enjoyed just spending time with them. He had lunch everyday with a group of friends nicknamed the Fat Boys Lunch Club. Skip was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all those who knew him. He survived by his wife Judy of Mason City; their children: Roxanne Marie Kuhn and husband Douglas of Forest City, Billie Jo Schmit and husband Joe of Britt, Robert William Rose and wife Stephanie of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jeremy Walter Rose, Jacob Robert Kuhn, Cody Jay and Kellie Ann Schmit, Kyle Jacob and Missy Dale Rose. He is also survived by his five sisters, Virginia, Susan, Jean, Cindy and Elsie and numerous nieces, nephews. Skip was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Genevieve Rose and one brother, William Robert Rose.
