MASON CITY: Wanda M. Brown-Meade, 86, of Mason City, died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church WAYside Chapel, 119 S. Georgia, with Chaplain Emily Devine, RSM officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Wanda was born on May 4, 1923, in Thornton, IA, the daughter of William E. and Mabel Peg (Walton) Jones. Wanda graduated from Mason City High School in 1941 and then Hamiltons Business College in 1942. She worked for Interstate Power until 1945. She was married to E. Warren Brown on June 11, 1945 in Mason City. Wanda then worked for the First National Bank for 17 years, Bob Schukei Ford for 12 years and then the Iowa Kemper Insurance Co. retiring in 1985. She married Edward Lewis Meade on October 6, 1990 in Mason City. Wanda enjoyed her retirement, spending the winters in Florida. She was very active in the Pilot Club of Mason City, past International President of the Credit Women Professionals from 1971 1972, Emeritus Member of the Local Credit Women Professionals, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Wanda is survived by one nephew: Richard L. Jones and wife Barbara of Las Vegas, NV; two nieces: Sandra Schaafsma of Sacramento, CA and Susan Leuci of New Port News, VA; one step-son: Joel Meade and wife Marilyn of Lemars, IA; one step-daughter: Mary Schnakenberg and husband Carl of Chicago, IL; four step grandsons: Kurt and Peter Schnakenberg & Thomas and Colin Meade; one step granddaughter: Kate Schnakenberg; one God Child: Lane Larson of Sheffield, IA; special cousin: Anna Arends of Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: E. Warren Brown in 1986 and Edward L. Meade in 1996; her brother: Donald L. Jones.
