Warren Boyd "Bud" Roath, 80, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home in Rockwell. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at the First Covenant Church, Hwy 122 at South Ohio, with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Warren Roath memorial fund in care of the family.
Warren Boyd was born July 29, 1935, in Forest City, IA, the son of Ira and Theresa (Tweed) Roath. He attended school in Joice and Fertile. Bud enlisted in the Army on April 21, 1954, and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was trained in the operation of heavy equipment and later became an instructor. He transferred to Camp Kilmar in New Jersey where he was inducted into the Air Force. He served at Gander, Newfoundland, Ernest Harmon Air Force Base at Stephensville, Newfoundland, and then in Greenland before returning to New York where he transferred back to the Army. He was honorably discharged on April 30, 1962.
Bud was united in marriage to Grace Nordman on May 24, 1957, at Bethel Baptist Church in Britt, Iowa. They made their home in Britt and later moved to Mason City. Bud worked for the railroad, Ideal Sand and Gravel, Thomas Machine, Iowa Mold and Tool, and David Manufacturing.
Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, model railroads, and visiting with family and friends.
He was a resident of the Rockwell Community Nursing Home for the past 3 years. The family wishes to thank them for the care he received.
Bud is survived by his wife of 59 years: Grace Roath of Mason City; 2 sons: Russell Roath and wife Melinda of Mason City, and Douglas Roath of Mason City; 4 grandchildren: Matthew Roath and wife Becky, Heidi Bohl and husband Eric, Timothy Roath and Danielle Roath; 7 great-grandchildren: Monica Roath, Andrew Roath, Curtis Roath, Aaron Bohl, Kali Bohl, Jordon Roath and Tyler Roath; and 1 brother: Gary Roath and wife Alice. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother: Dewane and wife Mureen; and 1 sister: Iris DeWall and husband Harris.
