MASON CITY: Wayne C. Dodge, 85, of Mason City, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, September 18, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to Opportunity Village, Hospice of North Iowa, or World Hunger Relief.
Wayne was born May 2, 1930 on his grandfather’s farm south of Thornton, Iowa the son of Kenneth and Letha (Hiller) Dodge. He was baptized and confirmed at Richland Lutheran Church, Thornton. Wayne graduated from Swaledale High School. He then served with the US Army 25th Division during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Wayne returned home and married Sharon Jorgensen March 21, 1954 in Thornton. He began farming on the family farm near Swaledale. Wayne and Sharon moved to Mason City in 1982. Wayne was a farmer at heart and helped on the family farm until a year ago. Wayne was a past member of the Thornton Coop Elevator Board, Cerro Gordo County Extension Board and Stewardship Committee at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City. He served on the St. Paul Lutheran Church Council in Thornton, was a member of the Thornton American Legion and Mason City Evening Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing at the Thornton Golf Course and achieved a hole-in-one at Highland Park Golf Course on hole #3. Wayne especially enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren’s activities. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Sharon; 2 daughters, Debra (Bruce) Harlan of Mason City and Brenda (Mark) Rasmuson of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Eric (Lisa) Harlan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Thomas (Amber) Harlan of Burnsville, Minnesota, Matthew (Lauren) Rasmuson of Swaledale and Lori Rasmuson of Clear Lake; great grandchildren, Alexander, Owen and Keegan Harlan, Claire, Henry and Conrad Rasmuson; siblings, Loretta (Clarence) Suelter of East Lansing, Michigan, Lorraine Krause of Omaha, Nebraska, Norma (Clifford) Horn of Chatsworth, California and Myrna (Robert) Chamberlain of Aberdeen, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Doris Jorgensen of Thornton; aunt, Ruth Dodge of Topeka, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Steven Harlan; brothers-in-law, James and Larry Jorgensen and Fredric Krause; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Clara Jorgensen
