Wendell “Windy” D. Roe, 91, of Mason City, IA, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center-North Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Monday May 22, 2023 at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave, with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will begin at 1 PM. Following the service a lunch will be served at the Moose Lodge.
Wendell was born on October 28, 1931 the son of Theodore and Inez (Iverson) Roe in LeRoy, MN. He was raised and attended school in the McIntire area.
On November 29, 1952 Wendell was united in marriage to Mary Lou Krumm. To this union two children were born, Bruce and Wendy.
Wendell served in the 2nd Air Wing of the United States Marine Corp from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was proud of his service during the Korean War and was proud to be a Marine.
Following his service to his country Wendell returned to Mason City where he was employed at Thermogas for 20 years before starting Roe Heating and Insulation.
After his retirement Windy and Mary enjoyed taking short trips and the occasional casino trip.
Wendell was an avid toy tractor collector. He was always on the hunt for that special find. He enjoyed going to farm toy shows, auctions and antique stores. Windy also enjoyed the company of his favorite cat “Sammi”.
Wendell was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Windy is survived by his children, Bruce (Rachel Fails) Roe and Wendy (David) Olson; sisters in law, Marlene (Gil) Smith, Joan (Gary) Saucier; numerous nieces and nephews; and his kitty cat companion, Sammi.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2009; parents, in-laws, Paul (Rosella) Krumm; sisters, Darlene (Gene) Betts, Ilene (Wilford) Ring; brothers in law, Robert Krumm, Ronald Krumm; and sister in law, Betty (Bob) Bohl.
