Mason City Wilbert Arnold Dietz, 77, of Mason City, died Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 6, 2010, at the Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church, 304 20th St. S.W., with Pastor Curtis DeLong of the First Church of Nazarene officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday (December 5, 2010) at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the American Cancer Society. Wilbert was born June 30, 1933, in rural Walcott, Iowa the son of Arnold and Ella (Frick) Dietz. He graduated from Durant High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952, served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. He moved to Keota in 1963 where he operated Willies Barbershop for 14 years. He was married to Arlene Schulz on September 4, 1981 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He moved to Mason City in 1995. He worked as a Courier at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa where he enjoyed socializing and helping people. He enjoyed building bird houses, watching birds and fishing. He had a passion for all types of music and played the accordion. He was a member of the V.F.W. and also an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He loved the time he spent with his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Willie is survived by his wife, Arlene of Mason City; two sons, Doug Dietz of Washington, IA and Neal Dietz of Ames, Iowa; step-children, Allen, Kerry, Denise, and Darin; twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandson; and one sister, Marion Schulz of Sand Springs, OK He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the American Cancer Society.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation:
Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday (December 5, 2010) at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
