William “Bill” D. Lindsay Sr., 87, of Freeland, MI, and formerly of Mason City, IA, died Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Stone Crest Assisted Living in Freeland. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Rock Falls Cemetery in Rock Falls, IA with Pastor Chuck Kelsey of the First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM on Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue – Mason City. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of North Iowa, 2700 Birch Drive, Mason City, IA 50401.
William was born August 16, 1928, in Mason City, the son of Jay and Dorothy (McCauley) Lindsay. He was a graduate of Mason City High School. Bill farmed 5 ½ miles Northeast of Mason City for 50 years. He was a true farmer at heart and he loved working the land. Bill enjoyed feeding birds, socializing, and, in his younger years, bowling, swimming and sailing. He also enjoyed driving around the countryside watching farmers work in the field. Bill was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Bill is survived by his children: William Jr. "Dave" (Sue), Heather (Don), Cash, and Lynda; grandchildren: Travis (Tracie), Sana (Mike), Andrea (Andrew), Chelsea, Kasyah, and Alasia; great grandchildren: Xander, Lillian and Catherine. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: John; and sister: Ruth.
