William C. Clausen

William C. Clausen, 78, of Mason City, IA, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Per his wishes, his body was cremated. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second Street SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401. William C. Clausen was born March 31, 1937 in Mason City, the son of Charles and Violet (Kopps) Clausen. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1955, where he played sports and was an outstanding pitcher for the Mohawks. On September 20, 1957 he married Phyllis Suby. He worked as a Union Bricklayer for various Contractors, building schools, churches and businesses in the area. He was Secretary/Treasurer for the local Bricklayers Union Local 21, retiring in 1997. He played and coached summer softball in his younger years and in his older years was a volunteer for the Mohawks football team on the chain gang. In younger years he was an avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed going to the Mohawks baseball and basketball games. He was a longtime member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church and loved by everyone who knew him. William is survived by his wife of 57 years and children: Daniel Clausen of Mason City and his son Riley, David (Constance) Clausen of Hampton, daughter Robin (Rick) Bartelt of Cedar Falls, and their daughter Chris and her sons of Thornton. Brother Michael (Linda) Clausen of Mason City. Many nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and his coffee buddy, John Hugo. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Delores Younke and Adam Bartelt.
