Wilma B. Schug

Wilma B. Schug, 99, of Mason City, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM at Major Erickson with Rev. Mark Lavrenz, Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, April 29, 2013 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Sac City, Iowa with Rev. Herman W. Kramer officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wilma B. Schug Memorial Fund in c/o Vicki Schug, 5409 Mt. Normandale Curve, Bloomington, MN 55437. Wilma Basler Blair was born March 21, 1914 in rural Calhoun County Iowa the daughter of Andrew Ralph and Nettie (Basler) Blair. She attended Auburn High School, graduating in 1931. Wilma was active in 4-H, sports, cheerleading, and was named Miss Auburn in 1930. She married Frank J. Schug September 2, 1934 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Sac City. They were blessed with four daughters. Frank and Wilma farmed in Coon Valley Township all their life and moved to Lake City, Iowa after retiring from farming. She and Frank were true “snowbirds,” enjoying 15 winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Following Frank’s death, Wilma moved to Mason City in 2000 to be near her daughters. She resided at Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living and most recently at Good Shepherd Health Center where she enjoyed the daily activities. A few of her interests included playing cards, doing circle word puzzles, watching her favorite baseball teams, and attending Ladies Aid at both St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Sac City and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City, IA. She especially enjoyed family celebrations and reunions. Wilma is survived by her children, Shirley Zobel of Mason City, Dr. Sandra Chilson of Verona, Wisconsin, Dr. Vicki (Steven Tvedte) Schug of Bloomington, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; twin brother, William Burns Blair; brother, James Lester Blair; daughter, Frances Steinbronn; grandson, Stacy Weber; granddaughter, Shelley Cohee; great-grandson, Kent VanGrouw; sons-in-law Bill Zobel and Curt Chilson.
