Wilma Ilene Cappel, 82, of Mason City, died Saturday (September 17, 2011) at Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 24, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 South Pierce Avenue, with Pastor Paul Collier officiating. A private family inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd Street S.E., Mason City, IA 50401, Community Kitchen, 606 North Monroe Avenue, Mason City, IA 50401, or Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank, 22 North Georgia Avenue - #14, Mason City, IA 50401. Wilma was born August 10, 1929, in Oak, NE, the daughter of Clyde and Dorothy (Wall) Washington. In 1947, she graduated from Hardy High School in Hardy, NE, and continued her education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. On August 14, 1949, Wilma married Robert E. Cappel in Lincoln. Together they moved to Jesup, IA, and later to Mason City. Wilma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, P.E.O. Chapter KX, and the Sorosis Study Club. Wilma was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, volunteering at the Community Kitchen, and traveling with her family. She also enjoyed music (singing) and was an All-State participant. Wilma is survived by her children: David Cappel and wife Barbi of Albuquerque, NM, Douglas Cappel and wife Brenda of Denver, CO, Jane Murl of Rochester, MN, and John Cappel and wife Anne of Colbert, Washington; one sister: Carol Lippincot and husband Mick of Denver, CO. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one step great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband: Robert Cappel in 2001; and one sister: Bonnie Gaebler.
